Julia Danser, DO, COM 2015
Once a professional dancer, Julia Danser, DO, COM 2015, stepped into a new role and is committed to providing the best care for her patients.
Now a General Pediatrician at Dignity Health Medical Group, Saint Francis/St. Mary's, she practices kid-friendly medicine along with human kindness in San Francisco, the town where she grew up.
The alumna says she takes on a full family approach when treating her patients where clear communication to children’s family and giving the right information helps a parent know what to expect and gives them peace of mind.
“When people come to me with problems and I get to be the person that makes their day better – that’s a very, very rewarding piece of my job,” says Dr. Danser. She articulates that she chose pediatric care because treating children right when they are born can benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Through her journey at Touro University California (TUC), the proud alumna was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Distinguished Pediatric Student Award. These rewards added to her drive, further emphasizing that pediatrics is what she was called to do.
One of her warmest memories while at TUC was working with Dr. Tami Hendriksz; her positive outlook really helped her along the way.
“She was bright, enthusiastic, eager to learn, and often had a warm smile on her face.” Stated Dr. Hendriksz, “She was nominated by her peers and selected to be a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society for her class, an honor that is awarded to the top 10% of the medical school class who strive to demonstrate and promote humanistic qualities, and who evoke a sense of compassion, trust and integrity in their patients and colleagues.”
When not taking care of children, Dr. Danser enjoys Latin dance because it lets her be creative and athletic at the same time. For her, the medical profession and dancing both require discipline, time management, commitment and team learning. She states that while a person can learn to become either a dancer or a doctor, they can add their own spin and make it their own. Married this past September, she and her husband enjoy traveling, cooking and renovating their new home.
